From the mouths of babes

An exchange earlier following a bout of cheek from my youngest:

Me: You are a cheeky monster!

Luke: You are a cheeky mother!

gales of hysterical laughter from both boys who are very pleased with this retort and repeat it many times to make sure that everyone has heard and understood it.

How on earth does anyone ever manage to keep a straight face?

I'm a staunch supporter of the cover-your-mouth-with-your-hand-and-cough approach.

Sometimes they even buy it.

I am going to be hopeless at this. I know I'm just bound to burst out laughing when Kai says something inappropriate in polite company (because he inevitably will - he has ME for a mother!)

Luckily for us both all we get at the moment is bye and dog.

I just laugh along. It's very funny, after all. You'll just have to find another way to tell them they're cheeky next time.

More than one child means you are out numbered! Statistically You don't stand a chance! (So I discovered on holiday!)

Thanks so much for the award! (Now I've just got to find time to do something about it...) x

Sometimes I laugh and if needs be make it a sarcastic one at the end... but most times I have to head straight out of the room!

I am terrrible and can never keep a straight face - your boys sound so funny and adorable. I like their quick wit, god knows where they get it? :)

How gorgeous. Oh I sometimes just have to laugh - depending on how rude they've been and how important it is that I keep a straight face. If I really have to, I can. If not, I'll laugh and tell them that they're funny - it's always nice to get a compliment (even if you are only 4 and 2)!!

Cartside - I find that too!

TM - nice move, I shall try it.

Josie - it always happens. We sometimes have to tag team it with one serious parent and the other round the corner bent double in hysterics.

Mwa - that's what I end up doing usually.

HMHB - being outnumbered is not a good thing. I'm really starting to suffer for it now!

Kat - you and me both

Pippa - straight out of the room we go.

WoB - I've always liked a bit of cheekiness in boys, just might have overdone it with three of them (incl their dad)

MT - I'm worried about encouraging it all - I'll be toast!

Is there really any need to keep a straight face?? Laughter is better than medicine.

This is lovely.

My youngest has just started the habit of saying 'Oh my God' in every sentence. Not in an 'Oh. My. Gaaaad!' Janice from Friends kind of way. But in a completely deadpane...oh my God, I left my swim bag at camp mummy.

I keep trying to correct him, because it sounds hideous. Oh my Gosh! I say. I my Gosh! But he likes oh my God. 'You say it all the time mummy' he says. 'Yes, you do' chimes in older son. Oh. My. God.

EM - laughter is the way it always goes. I'm hopeless at keeping a straight face.

Nicola - they say that your children are your mirror. Curses! x
