A Baking SUCCESS!

It was a time we never thought would come. Invited to a barbecue last night, we thought to have (yet another) go at baking something that might be acceptable to take along to a gathering of people, you know grown up people who might not be quite so accepting of the great chocolatey stodgefest that most of our cake baking attempts of late have resembled.

This time round, banana and chocolate chip muffins. Adam mixed and beat and I measured and poured. Into the oven they went and (Handel type Messiah music here) Halleluia! they rose. We took them to the party, heads held high and they were a real hit. People want the recipe and everything. We are cake making gurus. We are, in fact, Jamie Oliver and Martha Stewart.

Sadly the muffins are too late to enter the Great Blogger Muffin Off held a few months ago. But they'd have won. Truly they would have done. And for all those in Bosnia who let me know that they can't get their cakes to rise either (thank you for that, you have no idea how much better it makes me feel to know that it isn't just me struggling with the baking here!), try them. If we can get them to work, they must be pretty infallible.

Ah, BiB, you are such a humble pie yourself. Where are the show-off pictures?

My friend can't get her yeast rolls to rise here in England. I think it has something to do with the humidity here. Congrats on overcoming the non-rising cake.

Woo hoo! x

And the recipe? I may not be in Bosnia, but those sound like yummy muffins!

MM - beyond my technological abilities. And there was no icing. Or jelly bean things. I might not have won the muffin off after all

Kat - it is weird why things won't work in different countries. Mind you we moved within a town in the UK and our bread maker stopped working over night. Never worked out why!

SC - still have to make an actual cake rise, but we have some progress. Maybe I need to take on a cake without small children also waving spoons around. I'm not sure that is good for keeping air in the mixture...

TM - should be a link in the post

Ooh well done you - what a proud moment! Shame you didn't make them in time for the Carnival hosting though. Tsk tsk. Save some for me next time please! x

Mmm. Want to try that myself now.

I wonder what it is that causes the cakes not to rise. I will ponder this and get back to you if I come up with anything.

MT - Sorry, I was far more into the idea of drinking wine at carnival time...

Michelloui - would if I could a) work out how to do it and b) had the muffins hung around for long enough to have a picture taken of them. They are now, sadly, only a distant memory.

Mwa - give them a go. Seriously they don't get any easier to do than this recipe.

P&S - any help gratefully received!

Ahaha there's always room for another 'muffin off' if you're volunteering :0) No photos though?

I make a pretty mean banana cake but will definitely try those muffins, congrats on your success! xx

EM - I'll give it a go... if nothing else I'll have to work out how to get photos onto the blog

CB - banana cake. Does it have plain flour? Is it easy to make? I LOVE banana cake
